Join us to celebrate the launch of our All Shall Be Afforded Dignity! exhibition.

We are delighted to invite you to the launch of All Shall Be Afforded Dignity! at Thin Ice Press, an exhibition presented in partnership with the Anti-Apartheid Legacy Centre and Action for Southern Africa, commemorating the journey to democracy in South Africa, affirming the fundamental human right to dignity for all.

This exhibition features powerful works by artist Norman Kaplan, including a remarkable collection of linocuts and political cartoons that trace his career - from apartheid-era South Africa, through his years in exile in the UK, to post-liberation South Africa. Works include his 1996 linocut All Shall Be Afforded Dignity, created in response to South Africa’s new Constitution and now permanently engraved in the South African Constitutional Court's windows and The Waiting Room,1995 (pictured above) which reflect a deeply moving narrative of dignity, democracy, and resilience.

Kaplan’s artworks are displayed alongside items of archival ephemera from the Anti-Apartheid Movement Archives and The University of York's Borthwick Institute of Archives which highlight some of the York area’s rich anti-apartheid heritage.

More information about the exhibition and an online showcase here.

The York iteration of All Shall Be Afforded Dignity! is made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the launch event is supported by York University's Departments of English and Archaeology.
