Announcing the inaugural York Wayzgoose…
…featuring superb guest speakers, a suppliers’ fair, workshops and excursions, demonstrations, a print-your-own-beermat pub crawl, a drinks reception, a print auction, our first annual Wayzgoose dinner and, this being York, plenty of actual geese – one of them more than 500 years old!
Printed Portraits and the Scientific Revolution
How do printed portraits depict the changing and expanding knowledge about nature in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries? Join Irina Tautschnig to discover the portraits of early modern astronomers, anatomists, and natural historians and find out the stories behind the prints.

Lydia Kennaway, Poet-in-Residence at Thin Ice Press, introduces The Marker Committee, a collection of poems addressing the ephemerality of the written word.

Grief Has Many Voices: Hand Embroidery Workshop
Join textile artist Hayley Mills-Styles for this workshop and create a hand embroidered response to the University of York grief survey.
Hayley will show you how to use fabric and thread to share a story using collected responses from the university’s grief survey. Learn how to create a design using text and images and use a range of hand embroidery stitches to create a unique embroidered design. You will use six stranded embroidery threads and a variety of hand embroidery stitches to build your design.

Picturing Grief Exhibition: Reflective Workshop
An opportunity for anyone whose work involves grief to explore overlooked aspects of the experience of grief, guided by the exhibition.
This workshop will bring together professionals whose work involves grief. It will provide a quiet space to reflect on poorly understood aspects of the experience of grief, guided by the exhibition and quotes from the grief survey. Refreshments will be provided.
