Two Poems on Coney Street by Jessie Summerhayes
Poet Jessie Summerhayes wrote these thought-provoking, playful poems in celebration of Coney Street, York's ancient high street. 'How Many Coats?' captures the ripples of the street's long history, while 'NAME OF OTHER POEM' asks what the past might look like if instead of meaning 'King's', the word 'Coney' was taken from coney, an old word for rabbit?
This book isn't just about Coney Street, it was also printed there. The Thin Ice Press team collaborated with Jessie to print this limited edition chapbook on our 1845 Columbian press in a temporary venue before we moved to our new premises.
Two Poems on Coney Street is set in Centaur type, and was printed in June 2022 on Coney Street, York on an 1845 Columbian press.
